Personal Growth Weight Loss

First Lesson I have Learned

Accepting Reality

So one very important lesson that I learned is that I needed to pay closer attention to myself and my body. Since I am approaching “middle age” and am no longer in my 20’s & 30’s, it is important that I learn how to be this older person. Coming to this realization was weird for me because I still see myself as “young.” I am learning how to better care for my skin, hair, nails and body and find appropriate supplements to help me at this stage in my life. Now that I accepted that, moving forward was much easier.
I also need to take care of myself appropriately by becoming more active.  Since I wasn’t exercising regularly and definitely wasn’t “dieting,” what did I really expect? Right? I couldn’t just wait around and hope that this extra weight would just come off since time was not necessarily on my side.

Exercise, Exercise, Exercise

Finding or creating a diet/exercise plan that would work for me was crucial. I have been exercising for a long time (on and off) but never really got the results that I wanted. There are so many different types of exercise, programs, methods, etc. that it was confusing & overwhelming. Given that I am not educated in fitness or personal training, I needed to do some research.
Since I didn’t want to wait to let time pass me by, I took action right away. The goal was to become more toned & fit. It was important for me to change the way I looked. I didn’t want to have skin that didn’t work with me (i.e. losing its’ elasticity). So I made the decision to start working out every day (7 days per week).

HIIT

I saw some videos that promoted nutrition/workout programs that focused on HIIT workouts. The information that I found was that this type of workout was good for anyone but particularly for older men/women. HIIT stands for High Intensity Interval Training. This means that you do a kind of circuit training with 30-60 seconds of ‘training’ and then 15-30 seconds of ‘rest.’ When you are doing the training portion, you are encouraged to give 100% effort so that the resting time allows for proper recovery. These are pretty good workouts because the time goes by fast. They have really helped me to see results.

There are some pretty great YouTube personal trainers that I have worked out with and I will highlight some of them in future posts. Please stay tuned!
